Well Hello!

So… I suppose you’re here to find out a little bit about me.
Oh goodness how delightfully awkward.

Alright then. Grab a cup of something delicious, tuck yourself somewhere cosy, and let me tell you a story. We’re going back; properly back; so settle in. Ready?

Picture this: Bath, 1970s. One of those rare, shiver-your-socks-off winters where even the Georgian stone seems to chatter its teeth. The world is frosty, the air is crisp, and somewhere in that chill… Baby Charlie makes her grand entrance. And drifting through the air? “January” by Pilot, because of course there needed to be a soundtrack. Dramatic from the very beginning.

And truly, it only gets more theatrical from here…

But before we do... click on the link below, grab this tune to listen and read along to get the full "Charlie Experience"

My Story

Born in Bath, UK in the chilliest winter of the 1970s, I arrived dramatic from the start surely destined for the stage. Family living rooms became theatres, tea towels became costumes, and any available relative became my captive audience. Performing wasn’t a hobby… it was oxygen.

The 80s saw me founding the school drama club, launching the school newspaper (after bingeing far too much Press Gang), and bossing about quite happily as Head Girl and school librarian, a title that beautifully justified my ferocious appetite for books. Ballet classes with the Royal Academy of Dance followed, alongside drama clubs across Bath and Bristol, with magical performances at Bristol Old Vic and Theatre Royal Bath. It was a wonderfully theatrical beginning.

Then the 90s twirled in and surprised everyone including me. I swapped stage lights for long hours training as a chef and studying culinary arts and then science and journalism at university. I traded school uniform for clubbing attire, chefs’ whites and lab coats. I danced on stages across Europe, especially in the Netherlands, where between music and magic, I met my now-husband. (Proof that life loves a good plot twist.)

The noughties brought “Sensible Charlie” though still with sparkle. Late nights out became late nights in with babies one, two and three arriving in joyful quick succession. Apple trees were planted across UK gardens for godparents to watch the children “grow,” and somewhere between nappies and nature, the seed for Apple Tree Audio Creative Studios was quietly planted too.

Motherhood rekindled my love of play. I founded Poppies Parties, a vintage children’s events company brimming with bell tents, proper porcelain teacups, homemade cake, and a delicious absence of plastic. Surrounded by stilt walkers and jugglers, we created whimsical wonderlands where children giggled and adults happily squeezed into bell tents for a spot of make-believe. It was magic. Real magic, or at least the very best kind.

In 2015, we packed up our English treasures and moved stateside, building a new adventure in America with three children, two dogs, and a brave new chapter. The bell tents were folded, but creativity? Never.

By 2019, acting came calling again this time through the microphone. Commercials. Radio. And then… voice acting. A revelation. From 2019–2020 I threw myself into training, commuting into NYC three days a week for acting, voice, singing, dancing, and mastering the tech wizardry behind the booth. I built not just skills, but a business.

Then 2020 happened. Booth ready. Agents signed. Children homeschooling. Husband home-working. Coffee brewing constantly. I recorded at dawn, edited at dusk, and somehow kept the household spinning. The tiny booth soon gave way to something bigger, and by 2021/22 we had built my attic sanctuary: a professional studio nestled among the trees, alongside a home office, yoga space, and the occasional moment of peace.

Now, heading into 2026, I’ve won numerous awards or received amazing nominations, been the proud recipient of being honoured by industry leaders as a voice to know, recorded over 180 best selling audiobooks, countless commercials, TV promos, audio dramas, animations, and award winning video games.

I may no longer tread the boards, but acting lives in my bones only now the stage is soundproofed. I’ve had the joy of collaborating with extraordinary clients, wonderful agents, and occasionally my own children, who rather like stepping up to the mic themselves.

It’s been a story of costumes and club nights, bell tents and booths, science labs and sound waves all woven together by imagination, determination, grit and grace..

If this made you smile and you’d like to create something wonderful together, I would be absolutely delighted to bring your story to life.

Charlie xoxo
